My Story

My name is Johnna Pilipchuk and I am a psychologist and a certified grief counselor. Grieving Cafe is the result of my wanting to explore how to combine two areas of psychology about which I am passionate: grief counseling and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). As most ideas are born, this one grew out of necessity. A couple of years ago, my baby brother and only sibling completed a suicide. Not only was I a grieving sister, but I was also the point of contact with the police investigation, the executrix of his estate and the family member on which other family members relied upon for help navigating this devastating loss. If it had not been for my thirty (30) years experience teaching and applying DBT, I know I would not be functioning well to this day.
